Avis Budget Group.

What we did:

Avis Budget Group is the largest car rental organisation in the world. The group is made up of the Avis and Budget brands, the leading car sharing network Zipcar and a range of local subsidiaries.

With 10,000 locations in 175 countries, sharing information about the group’s global business amongst their 30,000 staff is a challenge. To help improve this process, we were brought in to provide technical consultancy and to deliver a bespoke WordPress app to be used be staff throughout the world employed by any of the Avis Budget Group brands.

We worked alongside teams in New York and London and Buckinghamshire-based agency fst Group on the project.

What we did

We created an app that brings together business information on the group’s activities in each country in which they have a presence. The information available in the app includes data on locations, products, fleet, and staff in each area.

Using a mix of data manually inputted into the highly-customised WordPress back-end and feeds from the main brand websites, we used Google’s map and chart APIs to visualise it.

Rolling out globally

Perhaps the biggest challenge was ensuring that the right data was delivered to the right people. It was important that sensitive information was protected and that content editors could only manage the content in their own locations.

To achieve this we build a complex user-management system in WordPress. This not only controlled access but also made it easy for new users to be assigned roles and specific content made available to them.

The results

Our work contributed towards the on-time delivery of the project. The app is currently being used globally by Avis Budget Group’s 30,000 staff.

Since delivery we’ve provided further consultation and development to extend the app’s functionality and user-management system.
