The Ouseburn.

Being located in the Ouseburn Valley, an area with so much creative enterprise, has been both a huge help and inspiration to us over the past couple of years. Working alongside and collaborating with so many talented people and exciting businesses means it’s always an interesting place to be.

However, it’s only in the relatively recent past that the Ouseburn has become such a diverse, thriving place. As recently as 20 years ago the Valley was in a state of disuse and dereliction due to the loss of much of the heavy industry in the area.

Today the Ouseburn Valley is the centre of Newcastle’s creative industry, but it is also known for it’s diverse night-life, music and cultural scenes. These form the basis of an initiative we’re currently involved in, alongside our good friends and fellow Ouseburn residents, Roots & Wings.

Facebook Festival 2014.

We’ve been working with Facebook on a couple of projects over the past few months, the most recent of which is the branding of this summer’s Facebook Festival.

The Facebook Festival is an annual event for the company’s 500 or so staff in the UK and their families. As you can imagine, it’s a world away from the typical office party.

We’ve been enlisted to brand the entire festival and design all marketing material required. This includes everything from banners, signage, bags and wrist-bands, to a map of the site that will be given to ticket-holders as they arrive.

Red Hot Sunglasses Marketing.

It has been some time since we showcased the ongoing marketing campaign we have been carrying out for one of our oldest clients, Red Hot Sunglasses. So, with a host of online and printed advertising on the horizon, we thought we should whet your appetite with a recent illustrative e-flyer for Ray Ban.

The idea was to showcase the most popular styles available, whilst keeping the design fresh and eye-catching. We feel the use of primary colours certainly give off a summer vibe.

Keep a look out for our upcoming World Cup themed campaign and more Style Guides over the Summer months.

Alpha Male Grooming Launched.

Starting the week on a positive note, today we’ve launched a new website for our client Alpha Male Grooming.

Alpha, created in 2006 by Lee Hetherington, are based in Gosforth, Newcastle upon Tyne and have previously been voted one of the top 10 grooming salons in the UK by Men’s Health Magazine.

They approached TAC Design with a brief to create a new website that integrated with the online booking and customer relationship management system they had recently adopted.

The new website was to encourage online booking, minimising the time the Alpha team have to spend manually taking bookings over the phone and allowing them to concentrate on providing an award-winning service to their customers.

Something Concrete + Modern Launched.

We’re delighted to announce the launch of Something Concrete + Modern, a new initiative that we’re involved with.

SC + M was conceived as a means of celebrating the people and the buildings that created a new architectural landscape in post-war years in the North East of England. As part of the project, today we have launched an online archive.

This online archive is designed to catalogue the key projects and people that were influential during this period. It is funded by a grant from the Royal Institute of British Architects, to document and publish information about this unique period in the history of the region. The archive contains detailed information about buildings and schemes, built and unbuilt, from Tyne & Wear to Teeside. There are hundreds of historic images to browse, often directly from the architect’s own collections and not available anywhere else online.

The past month at TAC has been an exceptionally busy one. There’s a few exciting projects that we have been working on for a while that are coming to a conclusion which we’re looking forward to telling you about here very soon. We’ve also signed up several new clients this month, all of who we’re really looking forward to working with. In between all of this we’ve also moved to our spacious new studio in Hoults Yard.

We often mention that we love to work with startups. Getting involved with new businesses with great a product, unique idea or a brand we believe in is something that always really excites us. One of our new clients, Proteinology, is definitely one that ticks all three of those boxes.

We’re on the move.

We’ve been based in Hoults Yard for over a year now and moving here is one of the best descisions we’ve made for ourselves and our company.

Hoults Yard has certainly been a big factor in our growth over the last 12 months.

Being based amongst so many other creative people and businesses has been amazing for us. We’ve even worked with Hoults on a couple of exciting projects.

Now, though, we’ve outgrown our current studio and are we’re on the move again. Staying in the Ouseburn was important to us, so we’re delighted to say that we’re moving to a much larger space in Hoults Yard.

SC+M identity.

Following our recent post regarding Something Concrete and Modern, we felt we should keep you posted as to how the project is coming along.

We are happy to say that we have now completed the identity for the project, which going forward will feature on the website, marketing material and all publications.

Our approach for the identity is typically modernist, nothing is included that isn’t needed. The bold shape of the “+” cutting through the “M” is inspired by basic architectural forms, which going forward will be applied to a stamp for marketing purposes.
